UMFCV is a dynamic university with more than 115 EU and national-funded research and structural projects. A 10 million EUR project (TARGET) aimed to further develop research infrastructure is currently ongoing with facilities for basic and clinical research projects. The Human Genomics Laboratory - UMFCV is backed-up by automated systems for sample preparation, DNA and RNA purification and handling, qReal Time PCR and sequencing analysis, Array-CGH for detection of genome wide copy number changes and gene expression profiling. A new biomolecular and biobanking facility has recently been built.

Mihai Ioana, MD, PhD, coordinates the Human Genomics Laboratory - UMFCV. He is also medical geneticist with main activities and responsibilities related to the evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and genetic counseling in genetic disorders. As post-doctoral fellow at the UMF “Carol Davila” Bucharest, Dr. Mihai Ioana was mostly focused on the evaluation of the NLR and TLR receptors in the pathogenesis of tuberculosis, in populations of different ethnic origins. Since 2009 his research experiments are mainly conducted in collaboration with Radboud University Medical Nijmegen Center, N4i, Nijmegen. Within the framework of TANDEM, Mihai Ioana is the scientific and technical coordinator of P8-UMFCV activities.
